ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW

MONTESSORI TODDLERS TO MONTESSORI LOWER ELEMENTARY (GRADE 1 - 3)

Montessori education is designed to identify and meet the needs of children at every stage of development. This cohesive approach supports the child in acquiring the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in today’s world.

Keeping track of children’s progress and growth over time are critical tasks and deeply intertwined with the work of guiding children through the breadth of the Montessori curriculum. There are no formal assessments at this level.

Continual assessment - Daily observation, thoughtful use of learning materials, and detailed record keeping, enable the directresses to closely follow and understand each child’s development.

Recording the progress - From the Toddler through Elementary, each child’s progress is closely monitored and supported. The directresses closely observe and record each child’s daily activities.

In the Elementary years, this process is enriched with additional tools, such as weekly one-on-one conferences with each child. These personalised interactions provide deeper insight into the academic and personal development of every child. They also give the children the opportunity to reflect on their own learning, set goals, and take greater responsibility for their progress.

MONTESSORI  UPPER ELEMENTARY (GRADE 4 - 6)

The Montessori pedagogy emphasises that every child has a unique learning style, and therefore, the approach must adapt to nurture their individuality and potential.

A comprehensive assessment system is implemented, combining both formative and summative methods. This includes periodic assessments, CCQ and research-based evaluations, portfolios and assignments, as well as term-end examinations. The term-end examinations comprise both objective and subjective questions to gauge a child’s understanding holistically.

Marking Scheme: The marking scheme is designed to ensure a balanced evaluation of learning outcomes. The rubric-based evaluation places special emphasis on assessing the child’s ability to apply knowledge through critical challenges, thereby fostering problem-solving skills and deeper intellectual growth.

SENIOR WING (GRADE 7 -10)

A comprehensive assessment system is in place, combining formative and summative assessments. Includes periodic tests, internal assessments, projects, assignments, practical exams, and term-end examinations.

Marking Scheme: Marks are allocated based on the weighting factor of each component.

Rubric-based Evaluation: Emphasises assessing the development of problem-solving skills through critical challenges.

External Examinations: Conducted by CBSE for class 10.
